Travel Day to Carolina Landing, SC

Today was a travel day. We left Mountain Lakes at 7:15 am for an easy 4 1/2 hour drive to Carolina Landing Preserve, Fair Play, SC. We drove through the Alabama country roads until we reached I-75 in George heading south to Atlanta where we picked up I-85 north to South Carolina. Carolina Landing is just over the South Carolina border at exit 4 on Lake Hartwell. This is a large lake so I'll have to check out the cost of a South Carolina fishing license.

Carolina Landing is not as nice as Mountain Lakes and is very hilly but it will have to do for the next 5 days. For some reason this place is filled up and was hard to find a site. We finally did and even though we are in the trees I was able to get a satellite signal. We need our Direct TV.

 When we leave here we will head to The Oaks at Point South, Yemassee, SC. We are going there for 2 1/2 weeks while we attend Erics graduation from Marine basic training. We can't wait to see Eric, Brittany, and Holly.

Little River Canyon - The Grand Canyon of Alabama

Yesterday we explored the Little River Canyon which is known as the Grand Canyon of Alabama. Little River is one of the nation's longest rivers that forms and flows for most of its length atop a mountain. Then it plunges off the Cumberland Plateau at the head of Little River Canyon. Beginning at 1,900 feet above sea level on Lookout Mountain the Little River ends up at 650 feet above sea level at Weiss Lake. The result is one of the most extensive canyon and gorge systems in the eastern United States.

We started our trip down the canyon at the Little River waterfalls in Fort Payne, AL. The pictures I am posting just do not do justice to great views we saw. I am always amazed that what is on the camera is not anywhere as good as what we see.

Today is a relaxing day at the campground because tomorrow we hit the road for Mountain Lakes Resort, Fair Play, SC. It's a 237 mile drive so we will hit the road early. We like to get in to the next campground early so I can be a watcher. I like watching the other campers as they arrive and hook up. Sometime it is funny watching them try to park their big rigs or back in the large 5th wheel campers.

Today Bev also did some laundry as I relaxed (as it should be). Live is good when you have BEER.

Still relaxing on Guntersville Lake

We are still here at Mountain Lakes Resort on Lake Guntersville.

A couple of days ago Bev's cell phone died so we went to the Radio Shack in Guntersville and she upgraded her phone. She is now in the 21st century with a phone that does everything. Along with making calls she now can text, go on the internet, use the GPS, play games, etc. It's like a small computer. She as already texted Brittany and is even able to add smiley faces to her text. She loves her new phone.

RVers love to eat out so yesterday we went to Los Rancheros Mexican Grill in Guntersville. It was one of the better Mexican restaurants, our meal was fantastic.

This is a very scenic area so we have been driving around checking out the sites. The leaves have not turned yet but we can see the first signs of fall. The days are still in the upper 70s and lower 80s.

Life is good.

Another Relaxing day at Guntersville Lake

This was another relaxing day at Guntersville Lake although I did install an new porch light with motion detector. A small project but not enough to break a sweat.

One of our fellow campers didn't have a great day. Their 5th wheel camper caught on fire. They were not here but a couple of people walking by saw the fire and called 911. They also broke into the camper and pretty much had it under control before the fire department arrived. There was quite a lot of damage and I hope they have good insurance.

This is such a great campground. There are many activities and it's is nice and flat for riding the bikes. (We don't like hills.)

There is a restaurant on site and we already had a great steak dinner. It's more fun to eat out.

This is Bev's favorite campground ever, she could live here year round.

Relaxing day at Mountain Lakes Resort on Gunterville Lake.

Today was a day of rest. The last two days we were on the road traveling and the week before we were at the Gypsy Journal Rally getting up early for the seminars.

We needed a few supplies so we went to a Super Walmart in Guntersville. That was our activity for the day. Life is good when you can sit around drinking beer.

This is my first blog.

I learned how to create a blog from Geeks on Tour at the Gypsy Journal Rally in Celina, OH. Check them out at geeksontour.com. They are full time campers that travel the country teaching computers and computer applications.


Well we left the muddy fairgrounds in Celina, Oh. It rained hard all week so many rigs had to be pulled out of the mud. We were lucky and I was able to pull out, fill the water, dump and hit the road. Last night we stayed at our traveling stop - Walmart. Today we arrived at Mountain Lakes Resort, Langston, AL. We will 
be here for two weeks before we head to South Carolina.
